Immediate Need for Haiti Orphanages Food Shortage! (Like, this minute!)

Hi all – our group of Haiti adopting families at our agency just received this urgent request from our family coordinator. If you feel moved to give please do so immediately via the links below. 100% of your donations go directly to purchasing food – no fees, no percentages taken, no nothing. This is an absolute emergency for these orphanages and these hundreds of children in their care! Please take a moment to read the brief message below:

(From our America World Adoption Agency family coordinator):

“A few orphanages have been put on our radar that have children that haven’t eaten in several days due to lack of food and money to buy food. America World (me, really) is feeling called to create a sort of food pantry at the [Haiti] guesthouse so we are equipped to provide interim relief for these orphanages while they work on getting a solid support system in place. We want to have a fund readily available to purchase rice and beans and meat for orphanages in need – not really a pantry full of food to distribute.

All kids in Haiti regardless of whether or not they are adoptable deserve to have at least one meal (preferably 3) a day. Please look out for more information about this fund in the next week or so.

There is an immediate need – an orphanage full of kids that have not eaten in 4 days and a second orphanage that has similar struggles. We are still trying to lock down information. Aimee and Tim [our Haiti Guesthouse resident staff] delivered some MANA to both orphanages to help fortify their diet but we feel the need to do more. We are cutting back on a few things at the guesthouse to meet this immediate need. If you are ready and willing to help immediately, please send me an email [see updated links below to donate immediately online]. All donations are tax deductible. – Thanks all!”

“Aimee and Tim checked in regarding one of the orphanages (not an AWAA adoption partner) and this was the response, “They are still in bad shape. The director is sending what money she can today but any food you could supply would be extremely helpful. I dropped off 55lbs of rice and a case of spaghetti on Monday but that won’t get them very far.” It is that bad….The scary reality is that there are probably many many orphanages and children’s homes in this position.”

will 100% of donations go toward food costs?

“YES!! 100% of the donation will go directly to buy food. Aimee and Tim will buy the food themselves and document what is given and to whom!”

**********”If you’d like to donate to the Haiti Food Pantry fund, please go to and click on “Give” on the top right of the page. Then click on “donate.” Choose “General Fund” under the “designated fund” drop down menu. Be sure to write in the “notes” section that the donation is for the Haiti Food Pantry fund. 100% of your donation will go directly to buy food and all donations are tax deductible. If you have any questions, feel free to call or email!”***********

~ This is in no way a guilt trip or anything of the sort – there is an immediate need in a country that is close to our hearts – and they need immediate assistance from anyone and everyone who is able to help. Whether it’s $5, $10, $50 or $5,000 – every dollar amount from this donation goes to purchase actual food for these orphanages and children who are currently on their 4th + day with ZERO food, and other orphanages who will continue to be in the same position with food shortages. If you cannot give financially at the moment – please keep these children in your prayers. FYI As far as we know, the orphanage that we are adopting from is not on this list of hunger.
